THE TREK IN BRIEF 4 days of walking 4 nights in the 4 refuges of the Friulian Dolomites Park 4000 metres of positive height difference 4000 metres of negative height difference Minimum altitude: Rifugio Pordenone, 1400 m Maximum altitude: Forcella di Val Montanaia, 2333 m Departure and arrival point: Pordenone refuge car park Difficulty: EE WHY DO THIS TREK The Friulian Dolomites have been part of the UNESCO Dolomites Park since 2009 and constitute one of the wildest natural parks in the area. They are characterised by a very peculiar structure: a long series of sharp spires, narrow valleys and rock pinnacles. The most famous of these rock structures is the Val Montanaia bell tower, known as the stone cry. Only here do we encounter a few hikers, while the rest of the route is very wild and uncrowded. This area is almost completely untouched by tourism, forgotten in the shadow of the better-known Dolomites. Yet it has a charm and beauty that is in no way inferior to the more famous peaks. With this beautiful trek, a true hiking raid, in 4 days we will visit the Giaf, Flaiban-Pacherini, Pordenone and Padua refuges, crossing the beautiful and wild valleys of the Pramaggiore, Monfalconi, Spalti di Toro and Cridola groups at altitude. We will walk on challenging trails surrounded by the wild beauty of the Dolomites, meeting few other hikers during the day. Every evening we will be welcomed by a mountain hut just like those of the past: no spa or double rooms, but plenty of kindness, warmth, and good food, just what we need to rest after a day's walk. DIFFICULTY This trek is challenging, both because of the significant elevation gain to be made each day, which will require several hours of walking, and because of the difficulty of the trails. We will face exposed passages, narrow, steep paths, scree. This trek is suitable for you if you are already an experienced hiker, do not suffer from vertigo, are well trained, and are not afraid to tackle some challenging sections.
